CMS Releases July Interim Performance Reports for HHVBP
What You Need to Know About the July IPRs – See How Your HH Agency Performs
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the July Interim Performance Reports (IPRs) for the Home Health Value-Based Payment (HHVBP) program on July 21, 2023. These reports provide home health agencies with valuable data about their performance on quality measures, as well as their percentile rankings nationally.
If a provider has more than one (1) CCN, a report will be available for each CCN.
The July IPRs include data for the following time periods:
- OASIS-based measures: April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023
- Claims-based and HHCAHPS survey-based measures: January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022
The IPRs show how each agency performed on each measure, as well as their percentile ranking nationally. Agencies can use this data to see how they are doing compared to their peers and to identify areas where they need to improve.
IPRs also include the following information:
- Achievement and Improvement thresholds: These are the scores that agencies need to beat in order to earn points under HHVBP.
- Benchmarks: These are the scores for the top decile in each measure, scoring above this will yield the highest points on each measure.
How to Access the July IPRs
The July IPRs can be accessed via iQIES in the “HHA Provider Preview Reports” folder. To access the reports, you will need to know your CMS Certification Number (CCN).
Why July IPRs Can Help Home Health Agencies
Once you have accessed the July IPRs, you should review them carefully. Pay attention to your performance on each measure, as well as your percentile ranking nationally. If you are not meeting the achievement thresholds, you will need to identify areas where you need to improve.
You can use the information in the July IPRs to develop a quality improvement plan. Your plan should identify specific goals and strategies for achieving those goals. You should also track your progress over time and make adjustments to your plan as needed.
Agencies can also get a better sense of where they stand nationally by using the percentile rankings, and even though this will not provide a payment adjustment, the data can still be helpful in determining areas for improvement.
