Change Healthcare Cyber Security Incident: What You Need to Know
Change Healthcare Cyber Security Incident: What You Need to Know
We are aware that many GreenpointMed, A SimiTree Company, revenue cycle management clients are experiencing disruptions due to a cybersecurity incident at Change Healthcare, the clearinghouse used by TherapyNotes for claims and payments.
Here’s a summary of the situation:
Change Healthcare experienced a cyber security incident on Wednesday, February 21. As a precaution, they shut down their systems to prevent further impact. This means:
Electronic claim submissions, ERAs, and real-time eligibility checks through TherapyNotes are currently unavailable.
Since claims are not being transmitted to insurers at this time, certain payments will likely be delayed.
Your top questions answered:
- Are GreenpointMed’s operations impacted? Our service is functioning as normal. We continue to post manual payments into your TherapyNotes account and complete VOBs. While we are submitting claims through TherapyNotes at this time, those claims will go into a holding queue until Change Healthcare’s systems become operational.
- Does GreenpointMed have plans to submit claims through alternative means? We are actively monitoring the situation and have developed contingency plans for billing in the event that this becomes a prolonged situation. These contingency plans include sending paper claims to insurers, submitting claims through third-party provider portals, and utilizing a different clearinghouse to submit claims.
- Is my patient protected health information (PHI) safe? Yes, since GreenpointMed does billing out of your TherapyNotes account, your PHI is safeguarded through TherapyNotes’ secure measures. Please refer to the TherapyNotes blog for additional details around your PHI
We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as they become available.
